Position Available - Toddler Aftercare Assistant 

Job Role: Toddler Aftercare Assistant  
Basic Salary: Between R6 000 & R6 500 TCTC
Location: ZA, Western Cape, Cape Town – Oranjezicht
Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract
 
We are looking for a dynamic and hardworking Toddler Aftercare Assistant to be part of our Stepping Stones family. 

  • A love of young children 

  • The ability to think proactively 

  • Being able to work as a team member 

  • Experience, training or an interest the Montessori philosophy of learning 

  • Previous experience of working with young children will be an asset 

  • A self-motivated individual 

Requirements:

  • Completed Matric qualification 

  • College course work in fields relating to preschool children preferred

  • Must be able to pass police clearance prior to working

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to communicate with children and parents in a positive and respectful manner

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent record keeper

  • Self-starter

  • Energetic personality and Team player

  • Must be punctual and reliable

  • First Aid/CPR certified preferred or willing to obtain certification

  • Reliable transport 

 
Performance Responsibilities: 
Under the direction of the Head of Education and Head of Aftercare, 

  1. Maintaining safety and ensuring the welfare and education of all enrolled children, supervision of children during all activities, indoors and out of doors.

  2. Maintenance of appropriate standards for children's discipline and behaviour standards using non-punitive methods as set out in the school policies. 

  3. Day-to-day operation; including maintaining a harmonious and efficient work environment. 

  4. Substitute teaching when staff are absent. 

  5. Perform housekeeping duties as assigned, including daily preparation and clean-up.

  6. Attend staff meetings and other work-related functions, including special events, as required.

  7. Interacting with parents when necessary or referring appropriate questions and concerns to Lead Teachers.

  8. Participate in planning program curriculum and/or making materials. 

  9. Assist in maintaining emergency response plan.

  10. Continue to engage in professional development.

  11. Other responsibilities as assigned from time to time. 

 
General responsibilities: (include but are not limited to the following) 

  1. Establishing and maintaining a positive relationship with the AftercareSupervisor and ensuring you work together as a team. 

  2. Together with the Supervisor, being fully accountable in every aspect for the children in your care during your working hours

  3. Establishing and maintaining a positive relationship with the parents of children at the school; specifically the parents of children in the Aftercare programme 

 
Working hours:

  • Monday to Friday (occasional Saturdays and weekday evenings related to school events).

  • 12:00 – 17:00
